Counter-Arguments & Criticisms

The strongest skeptical position is that the three convergences are structurally superficial. Decoherence may eventually solve the measurement problem in a fully local way (Wallace 2012); the Hard Problem may dissolve under sufficient functional analysis (Frankish 2016 illusionism); UAP data may resolve into mundane sensor artifacts and prosaic explanations (Mick West and others). On this view, calling the three "convergent" is a category error — three unrelated unsolved problems, not one underlying structure.

We acknowledge this is the position requiring the fewest new ontological commitments. We hold it cannot be ruled out. Our argument is weaker: that the convergence is suggestive enough to be the most important open question in modern foundations, even if it ultimately resolves into three distinct mundane stories. The history of science contains both kinds of cases — apparent convergences that dissolved (vital force, ether, phlogiston) and apparent convergences that pointed to deep unification (electricity-magnetism-light, energy-matter, space-time). A second criticism: bringing UAP into the conversation is reputationally costly and may not be epistemically warranted.
