Doggerland was progressively inundated as post-glacial sea levels rose from approximately 16,000 BP onward. By approximately 8,200 BP, the landscape was reduced to a series of low-lying islands (including what is now Dogger Bank, a major shallow-water feature of the North Sea, rising to within 15–36 meters of the surface). The final catastrophic event was the Storegga Slide tsunami (approximately 8,150 BP) — a massive submarine landslide off the coast of Norway that generated a tsunami up to 25 meters high in parts of Scotland and Norway, which would have devastated the remaining Doggerland islands and their inhabitants. By approximately 6,000 BCE, Doggerland was entirely submerged, and Britain became an island for the first time since the last interglacial.
